Rural Development and Skill Policy - DDU-GKY 2.0
The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0 is being implemented under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). The programme is designed to connect rural youth with industry-led training and sustainable employment, while also supporting post-placement assistance, upskilling and reskilling.
The PIB backgrounder states that the revised programme is being implemented across 31 States and Union Territories, with more than 749 approved projects, around 760 active training centres and over 455 Project Implementing Agencies. Since inception, more than 18.47 lakh rural youth have been trained across over 800 job roles and more than 12.43 lakh have been placed. The revised guidelines were notified in May 2025.
The programme also carries inclusion targets: at least 50% coverage for SC/ST candidates, 33% for women and 5% for persons with disabilities. The Union Budget 2026-27 provided ₹750 crore for DDU-GKY, with training planned for about 1.37 lakh rural youth.

Railway Safety - KAVACH 4.0
Indian Railways commissioned KAVACH 4.0 for the first time on the South Central Railway. The upgraded system was deployed over a 108-route-kilometre section between Malkajgiri and Kamareddi in the Hyderabad Division of Telangana.
KAVACH is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system. It is intended to help prevent Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD), control train speed and reduce the risk of collisions. Version 4.0 improves location accuracy, provides better signal information in larger yards, and supports station-to-station optical-fibre communication and a direct interface with electronic interlocking systems. The system has Safety Integrity Level-4 (SIL-4) certification.
For examination purposes, distinguish KAVACH from a general railway communication network: its central role is automatic train protection and safer movement authority.

Space Technology - GalaxEye OptoSAR Project
The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology, signed an agreement with GalaxEye Space Solutions for ₹63.84 crore of support from the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. The project has a total approved cost of ₹247.69 crore and aims to develop a multisensor satellite for high-resolution Earth observation.
The project’s core technology is OptoSAR, which combines Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and electro-optical imaging. Optical imaging provides detailed visual information but can be affected by cloud cover and daylight. SAR can operate through cloud cover and without daylight. Combining the two is intended to provide more continuous and information-rich observation in varied weather and lighting conditions.
The proposed system targets sub-0.5-metre resolution and is expected to support wide-area surveillance, human and vehicle detection and target classification. The programme aims to move the technology from Technology Readiness Level 6 to Level 9, covering further development, engineering, testing and validation.

Food Regulation - Draft Rules on Analogue Paneer
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) proposed a draft amendment to the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011. The proposal seeks to ensure that products represented as Paneer are made only from milk-derived constituents.
The draft would cover products described as “Analogue in Dairy Context”, including products that resemble dairy products but contain constituents not derived from milk. Licensed or registered manufacturers of such products would be required to discontinue using the term “paneer” in their nomenclature, labelling and marketing. The proposal is a draft regulation, not a final prohibition already in force; objections and suggestions are invited within the prescribed consultation period after Gazette publication.
The exam takeaway is the distinction between a food-standard proposal and a final enforceable regulation, as well as the role of FSSAI in food safety and standards.

Public Health and International Engagement - India at UNGA81
At the 81st United Nations General Assembly, India highlighted progress on universal health coverage, hepatitis elimination and sickle-cell care. The official release noted more than 1.8 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, over 900 million unique Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs and more than 497 million teleconsultations.
India reiterated its goal of eliminating hepatitis as a public-health threat by 2030 and highlighted the role of digital health and financial protection under Ayushman Bharat. It also referred to OneSCD, a platform launched with global partners to support sickle-cell care.
This topic connects a multilateral forum with national health policy. Candidates should distinguish ABHA, which is a digital health-account identity, from health insurance or a hospital benefit itself.

Economy - Reduction in Edible Oil Import Duties
The Government reduced the basic customs duty (BCD) on several crude edible oils. The duty on crude sunflower oil was reduced from 10% to zero, while the duty on crude soybean oil and crude palm oil was reduced from 10% to 5%. The corresponding duty structure for refined edible oils was also adjusted.
The Government stated that a 19.25% import-duty differential between crude and refined oils would be maintained. The policy is intended to support domestic refining, discourage excessive imports of refined oil and provide relief to consumers. Industry stakeholders were asked to pass on the benefit of the lower duty.
The important concept is the difference between crude and refined oil in tariff policy. A change in BCD affects the landed cost of imports and can influence domestic refining and consumer prices.

Defence and International Relations - Exercise VARUNA 2026
The Indian Navy’s INS Trishul arrived at Toulon, France, for the 24th edition of Exercise VARUNA, the bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and the French Navy. The programme includes harbour and sea-phase professional interactions, cross-deck visits and operational engagements intended to improve interoperability.
VARUNA is important in the context of India-France maritime cooperation and the wider Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific security environment. Bilateral exercises such as this one provide opportunities for coordinated procedures, professional exchange and practical naval cooperation.
Do not confuse VARUNA with exercises involving other partners. The key pairing for this edition is India and France, and the participating Indian ship is INS Trishul.

International Economy - EAS-EMM and AITIGA Review
An Indian delegation led by Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, participated in the 14th East Asia Summit Economic Ministers’ Meeting and the 23rd ASEAN-India Economic Ministers Consultation in Manila, Philippines.
All 11 ASEAN countries and the named East Asia Summit partners participated. The ASEAN Secretariat briefed participants on the regional and global economic outlook for 2027. The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) presented a paper on an integrated approach to energy security and industrial clusters.
The ASEAN-India consultation focused on the ongoing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA), with the stated aims of improving trade flows, addressing trade asymmetries and making the agreement more balanced, effective, user-friendly and trade facilitative. India-ASEAN bilateral trade reached USD 128.38 billion in 2025-26, with ASEAN accounting for 10.55% of India’s global trade.

Science - Quantum Measure Theory in the Laboratory
Researchers at the Raman Research Institute, an autonomous institution of the Department of Science and Technology, reported the first experimental measurement of a quantum measure exceeding one. The experiment measured a quantum measure of about 1.17, consistent within experimental uncertainty with a predicted value of about 1.18.
The result does not mean that an ordinary probability exceeded one. Ordinary detector probability remained below one. The quantity exceeding one was a quantum measure that includes interference between possible photon histories. Researchers used an optical setup, route selection and polarisation to create an event filter and then inferred the quantum measure from the measured laser powers and calibration.
The work brings Quantum Measure Theory from a largely theoretical framework into an experimental setting and may contribute to future tools for quantum measurement and computing. It should not be described as a resolution of the quantum measurement problem or as a direct test of quantum gravity.

Sports and Northeast - Naorem Roshibina Devi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Naorem Roshibina Devi on winning the silver medal in the women’s Sanda 60 kg event. The achievement was highlighted as her winning medals in three consecutive Asian Games, making the result significant for consistency and sustained international performance.
Naorem Roshibina Devi is associated with Manipur, making this a useful Northeast-linked sports current-affairs item. The examination focus is the athlete, event, medal and the three-consecutive-Asian-Games achievement. Sanda is a combat-sport discipline within wushu; it should not be confused with a conventional athletics or racket-sport event.
