Economy - WPI Inflation and Producer Price Indices for July 2026

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry released provisional estimates of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on base year 2022-23 for July 2026. All-India WPI inflation stood at 9.78% year-on-year, compared with 9.87% in June 2026. The all-commodities index for July 2026 was 110.0.

Major group inflation in July 2026 was 8.52% for Primary Articles, 20.05% for Fuel and Power and 8.29% for Manufactured Products. The release also covered Output Producer Price Index and trial Input Producer Price Index estimates. Economy & Trade - India's Exports in July 2026

India's total exports, combining merchandise and services, were estimated at US$ 80.14 billion in July 2026, registering a year-on-year growth of 13.31%. Total imports were estimated at US$ 95.16 billion, making the total trade balance -US$ 15.03 billion for the month.

For April-July 2026-27, cumulative exports were estimated at US$ 316.42 billion, compared with US$ 279.63 billion in April-July 2025-26. Merchandise exports during April-July 2026-27 stood at US$ 173.78 billion, while cumulative non-petroleum exports were valued at US$ 143.61 billion. The main July merchandise export growth drivers included petroleum products, electronic goods, engineering goods, chemicals and cotton yarn or handloom products.

Digital Economy - STP Units and IT Export Ecosystem

The Ministry of Electronics and IT reported that units under the Software Technology Park (STP) scheme recorded estimated exports of ₹7,73,898.97 crore in FY 2025-26. The STP scheme is a 100% export-oriented scheme for promoting software and IT-enabled services exports, with STPI providing statutory services through a single-window clearance system.

The total number of STP units increased to 2,125 in FY 2025-26, compared with 2,042 in FY 2024-25. The State-wise table also listed 2 STP units in Assam in FY 2025-26. Economy & Manufacturing - NITI Aayog Report on Global Manufacturing Hub Sectors

NITI Aayog released the report "Key Sectors to Position India as a Global Manufacturing Hub". The report identifies sectors with potential to strengthen India's manufacturing competitiveness and support the Viksit Bharat vision through targeted interventions.

The report analyses four sectors: chemicals, telecom and networking equipment, textiles and solar photovoltaic manufacturing. It studies market potential, infrastructure readiness, policy support, raw material availability, technology readiness, employment potential and India's position in global value chains. Industry & Strategic Minerals - Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Scheme

The Ministry of Heavy Industries received 20 bids for establishing integrated sintered NdFeB Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) manufacturing facilities under the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered REPM. The Union Cabinet had approved the scheme on 26 November 2025 with a financial outlay of ₹7,280 crore.

The scheme aims to establish 6,000 metric tonnes per annum of integrated REPM manufacturing capacity in India. It proposes allocation to five beneficiaries, with up to 1,200 MTPA capacity each, through global competitive bidding. Rare earth permanent magnets are important for electric vehicles, wind turbines, high-end electronics, aerospace and defence systems. The topic links strategic minerals, clean-energy supply chains and import-dependence reduction.

Environment - India's NDC and Climate-Action Milestones

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change stated that India achieved a 37.38% reduction in GDP emissions intensity in 2022 from the 2005 level, against the 2030 NDC goal of 45%. The share of installed electric power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources crossed 50% in June 2025, five years ahead of schedule.

As of 30 June 2026, non-fossil fuel-based resources accounted for 54.18% of India's total installed electric power capacity. India also created an additional carbon sink of 2.44 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent during 2005-2022, against the 2030 target of 2.5 to 3.0 billion tonnes. The 2035 targets include 47% reduction in emissions intensity, 60% non-fossil installed electricity capacity and a carbon sink of 3.5 to 4.0 billion tonnes.

Polity & Digital Governance - Revamped India Code Portal

The Ministry of Law and Justice launched the revamped India Code Portal on 13 August 2026. The portal is intended to make access to the Constitution, Central Acts, Rules and other legislative information simpler, faster and more citizen-centric.

Key features include AI-assisted search, semantic search, speech search, improved navigation and multilingual access. Judiciary & Digital Governance - e-Courts Mission Mode Project Phase III

The e-Courts Mission Mode Project is being implemented in phases to strengthen ICT use in the judicial system. The ongoing Phase III (2023-27) aims to move towards digital, paperless and more intelligent courts through digitisation of records, wider virtual hearings, interoperability across justice institutions and adoption of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence.

The release reported 1,806 fully functional eSewa Kendras, 474 courts equipped for paperless courts and 538 courts equipped for virtual-court infrastructure. eSewa Kendras help litigants and advocates with e-filing, scanning, online court-fee payment, case status enquiries, certified copy applications and video conferencing access. Security & Public Service - Independence Day Gallantry and Service Medals

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that 1,057 personnel of Police, Fire, Home Guard and Civil Defence, and Correctional Services were awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2026. The awards include 301 Medals for Gallantry, 92 President's Medals for Distinguished Service and 664 Medals for Meritorious Service.

Among the 301 gallantry medals, 197 personnel are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 51 from Jammu and Kashmir, 12 from the North-East and 41 from other regions.
