The Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (Assam TET) is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as teachers in elementary schools (Classes I–VIII) in Assam, in accordance with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009 and the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). SCERT Assam is the State Academic Authority for the TET.
The test has two papers — Paper I for the Lower Primary level (Classes I–V) and Paper II for the Upper Primary level (Classes VI–VIII). A candidate who intends to teach at both levels may appear for both papers.
Qualifying the Assam TET only establishes eligibility; it does not by itself guarantee appointment, which is made through a separate recruitment process. As per current norms, the TET qualifying certificate has lifetime validity.
