Overview

The 6 October 2026 Daily Current Affairs edition focuses on five substantive policy, institutional, rural-development and defence-technology milestones. The selected developments are the Union Cabinet's approval of a ₹10,000-crore SME Growth Fund, approval of an Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority, notification of 375 permissible works under the VB–G RAM G framework, DRDO's maiden live jump of an indigenous high-altitude parachute and a BrahMos fire-control contract for Indian Navy ships.

The selection excludes scheduled events, ceremonial engagements, routine government activities, ordinary organisational performance updates and developments already covered in the 1–5 October editions. The exact status of each item is retained: approvals are not described as implementation, a notification is not described as a completed outcome, and a technology trial is not described as full deployment. After revision, attempt the Daily Current Affairs Quiz - 6 October 2026.

Economy and MSMEs - Cabinet Approves ₹10,000 Crore SME Growth Fund

The Union Cabinet approved the Government of India's commitment of ₹10,000 crore towards establishing the SME Growth Fund (SGF) on 6 October 2026. The fund is intended to provide growth-oriented equity capital to small and medium enterprises that have demonstrated viability and scope to scale.

The commitment will be made to an Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) established under the SGF framework. The fund is designed to address the gap between early-stage support, which often reaches micro enterprises, and the longer-term risk capital needed by growth-stage SMEs. A majority of the allocation is intended for manufacturing-focused SMEs, including enterprises in industrial clusters in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

The current milestone is a Cabinet approval and government commitment, not the completion of investments in individual companies. The initiative is linked to Para 28 of Union Budget 2026–27 and is expected to support expansion, technology adoption, export competitiveness and stronger domestic value chains. For examination purposes, distinguish an AIF-based equity support mechanism from a conventional bank-credit or credit-guarantee scheme.

Governance and Infrastructure - Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority Approved

The Union Cabinet approved the setting up of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) as a Special Purpose Vehicle on 6 October 2026. The proposed authority is intended to improve coordination across transport and logistics-related Ministries and agencies, where fragmented planning can create gaps between road, rail, ports, shipping, aviation, inland waterways, coastal shipping and urban mobility.

ITLA is planned as a national apex institution for integrated transport and logistics planning, research, project appraisal, monitoring, policy support and data analytics. It will prepare a National Transport Master Plan with a planning horizon of ten years or more, evaluate sectoral and annual plans, and monitor transport and infrastructure projects costing ₹500 crore or more. Financial appraisal will continue through the existing financial appraisal mechanisms.

The authority is also expected to build a National Transport Data Repository using sources such as GSTN e-way bills, FASTag, Vahan and GPS-based systems. The development is an institutional approval; the source does not say that every planned function or the future master plan has already been completed.

Rural Development and Governance - 375 Works Notified under VB–G RAM G

The Ministry of Rural Development notified a new Schedule of Permissible Works under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB–G RAM G] Act, 2025 on 6 October 2026. The Schedule contains 375 permissible works, compared with 266 works under the previous framework.

The works are organised under four thematic pillars: Water Security, Core Rural Infrastructure, Livelihood-related Infrastructure, and Special Works for Extreme Weather Events and Disaster Preparedness. Water Security has the largest share with 128 works, followed by 111 under Core Rural Infrastructure, 98 under Livelihood-related Infrastructure and 38 under Disaster Preparedness.

The notification also introduces a dedicated disaster-preparedness and extreme-weather category, including flood-relief shelters, embankment strengthening, post-disaster restoration and forest-fire management measures. Works are to be planned through Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans and approved by the Gram Sabha, with digital tracking through the Viksit Bharat National Rural Infrastructure Stack. The current milestone is the notification of the Schedule, not the completion of all works.

Defence Technology - DRDO Conducts Maiden Live Jump of AHAP

The Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted the maiden live jump of the Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) at Nyoma's Mudh drop zone in Ladakh on 6 October 2026. The jump was executed from 16,000 feet above mean sea level; the parachute was deployed at 15,500 feet and the landing area was at about 13,700 feet.

AHAP is a static-line parachute system designed for the mass drop of paratroopers in high-altitude terrain. It was designed and developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra. The system was manufactured by the Ordnance Parachute Factory, Kanpur, inspected by DGAQA and certified by CEMILAC, RCMA Kanpur.

The verified milestone is a successful maiden live jump demonstrating the system's efficacy and tactical employability in extremely high-altitude conditions. It is not a claim that the system has already been deployed across all operational units. The development is relevant to indigenous defence technology, high-altitude operations and the roles of DRDO establishments.

Defence and Indigenisation - ₹661.50 Crore BrahMos Fire-Control Contract

The Ministry of Defence signed a ₹661.50-crore contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited on 6 October 2026 for BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for Indian Navy ships. The procurement is under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category and carries a minimum 68% indigenous content requirement.

The BrahMos system fitted on frontline warships is the Indian Navy's primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime-strike operations. The contract is an acquisition milestone that supports domestic defence manufacturing, including participation by Indian industries and MSMEs. It should be distinguished from the separate question of a missile system's operational capabilities: the current development is the signing of the procurement contract.
