Space Technology - GSLV-F17 Successfully Places EOS-05 in Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit
ISRO successfully accomplished the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission on 4 September 2026. The mission placed EOS-05, an Earth-observation spacecraft, into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. GSLV-F17 is the 19th flight of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.
EOS-05 is India's first-ever imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit. A geosynchronous orbit has an orbital period matching the Earth's rotation, enabling a satellite to remain associated with the same broad region of the Earth. This differs from many low-Earth-orbit imaging satellites that pass over a location only during periodic revisits. The official mission page describes EOS-05 as an Earth-observation spacecraft and identifies the launch site as the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR. For examinations, distinguish a launch vehicle from its payload, and a transfer orbit from the final operational orbit.

Disaster Management - Himalayan States Review GLOF and Avalanche Preparedness
The Union Home Secretary reviewed preparedness of Himalayan States and Union Territories for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and snow avalanches. The review involved Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, along with the NDMA, Central Water Commission, IMD and Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment.
A GLOF occurs when water stored in a glacial lake is suddenly released, potentially causing destructive downstream flooding. The review stressed early warning, monitoring of vulnerable glacial lakes and snow-covered areas, identification of high-risk locations and flow paths, alert dissemination, evacuation preparedness and inter-agency coordination. States were also advised to advance mitigation projects sanctioned in 2024. A GLOF is different from an ordinary river flood because it is linked to the sudden failure or overtopping of a natural dam containing a glacial lake.

MSMEs and Compliance - Corporate Mitra Course Begins With 2,879 Learners
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, along with ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI, commenced the first batch of the Corporate Mitra Course with 2,879 learners registered. The initiative was announced in the Union Budget 2026-27 to develop trained and certified paraprofessionals who can support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises with business and regulatory compliance.
The course is for 12 months. Its first six months comprise about 150 hours of structured academic learning through recorded lectures, followed by six months of on-the-job training in professional firms of members of the three professional institutes. The initiative combines the expertise of ICAI, ICSI and ICoAI with technology and academic support from IIT Madras, IIT Madras Pravartak and SWAYAM Plus. A paraprofessional supports professional work within a defined training and supervision framework; the course does not create a new statutory regulator for companies.

Child Rights - NCPCR Campaign Rescues More Than 3,800 Children
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) reported that its Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign rescued more than 3,800 children from child labour and related vulnerability. The campaign ran from 12 June to 31 August 2026 and was coordinated with State and Union Territory administrations, district authorities, labour departments and police.
More than 575 FIRs were registered during the campaign. The exercise covered identification, rescue, rehabilitation, restoration, educational mainstreaming, compensation and follow-up reporting. NCPCR is a statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Its role is connected with protection and promotion of child rights; rescue operations and criminal investigation are undertaken through coordination with the competent State and local authorities. For examination purposes, remember the importance of rehabilitation and education after rescue, not only the rescue figure.

Governance - Special Campaign 3 Redresses 2,306 Pension Grievances
The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare concluded Special Campaign 3 for long-pending pension grievances, claims and issues. The campaign began on 7 July 2026 and concluded on 31 August. It redressed 2,306 of 3,193 cases taken up, a redressal rate of 72%.
The cases included those identified by ministries and departments and grievance cases pending for more than a month on the CPENGRAMS portal. CPENGRAMS is the Centralised Pension Grievance Redress and Monitoring System for pension-related grievances. The campaign covered Central Government pensioners and family pensioners, with the release noting substantial resolution for rural residents through online grievance channels. It is a service-delivery and grievance-redressal exercise, not a pension revision or a new pension scheme.

Northeast Economy - Tripura's NPOP-Certified Ethnic Rice Exported to Europe
APEDA facilitated the flag-off of 18 metric tonnes of NPOP-certified ethnic rice from Tripura for export to Austria and the Netherlands. The consignment, flagged off on 2 September 2026, included Aromatic Kali Khasa, Aromatic Harinarayan, Biron and Maimi Hanga rice varieties.
The produce was aggregated from Farmer Producer Companies supported by the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency. NPOP means the National Programme for Organic Production, which provides standards and certification arrangements for organic products. APEDA is the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. The development illustrates how certification, traceability, FPC aggregation and export-market linkages can support value addition for farmers in the Northeast. It should not be confused with a geographical-indication registration; organic certification and GI protection are separate systems.

Defence and International Relations - RAKSHA Sets a Ten-Year Defence-Diplomacy Roadmap
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh released RAKSHA, a defence-diplomacy document outlining India's strategic roadmap for global defence partnerships over the next ten years. The framework links national-security objectives with proactive international cooperation.
Its stated pillars include deepening strategic partnerships, capacity building through exercises and training, promotion of indigenous defence exports, and maritime security. The maritime pillar identifies India's role as a Net Security Provider and First Responder in the Indian Ocean Region. Defence diplomacy uses military cooperation, dialogues, training, exercises, capacity building and industrial collaboration to advance national interests and stability. The document is a strategic framework; it is not a defence treaty or a new armed-service command.

Biotechnology - BIO-NIVESH Platform Links Innovators With Investors
The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology launched BIO-NIVESH, a strategic platform intended to strengthen engagement between biotechnology innovators and the investment community. The launch followed a joint round table with startups and investors.
BIO-NIVESH is designed to help promising biotechnology ideas progress from research and entrepreneurship towards industry, scale-up and markets by encouraging the flow of private capital. Biotechnology commercialisation often faces a gap between laboratory research and market deployment because it requires validation, scale-up, regulatory readiness, infrastructure and finance. The platform addresses that bridge; it is not itself a grant scheme, a biotechnology regulator or a substitute for scientific peer review. Candidates should associate it with investment mobilisation and scale-up of biotech innovation.

Economy - Finished Steel Production Reaches 68.1 Million Tonnes in April-August
The Ministry of Steel reported that India's finished-steel production reached 68.1 million tonnes during April-August 2026, compared with 65.6 million tonnes in the corresponding period a year earlier, a growth of 3.8%. Crude-steel production during the same period was 70.3 million tonnes.
For August 2026 alone, crude-steel production was 14.1 million tonnes and finished-steel production was 13.5 million tonnes. The figures distinguish different stages of the steel-production chain: crude steel is the output after primary steelmaking, while finished steel is processed into usable products such as coils, bars and sheets. The release also reported NMDC iron-ore production of 4.07 million tonnes in August. Industrial-output questions often test the correct unit, time period and distinction between production stages.

Circular Economy - GeM and Textiles Committee Sign MoU for Recycled Textiles
Government e Marketplace (GeM) and the Textiles Committee signed an MoU to promote public procurement of recycled and upcycled textile products made from pre-consumer and post-consumer textile waste, scrap and second-hand clothes. The partnership was formalised during the 62nd Foundation Day celebrations of the Textiles Committee.
The initiative seeks to create a "Waste-to-Value-to-Market" ecosystem by connecting value-added recycled textile products with Government buyers through GeM. Upcycling refers to converting discarded materials into products of higher value or quality; recycling generally reprocesses materials into usable inputs or products. GeM is the Government's digital procurement platform. The MoU is relevant to circular economy, sustainable public procurement and textile-waste management, not to a ban on textile production or imports.
