Overview
The 8 October 2026 Daily Current Affairs edition covers two developments with clear examination value for APSC, ADRE, Assam Police, Assam TET, SSC, Banking and Railway preparation. The selected topics span public-health implementation and science education. Each item is anchored to the date of the material milestone rather than treating a later report or background fact as a new event.
The edition includes the launch of JOSH Teams under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and India's medal performance at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics. After revising the notes, attempt the Daily Current Affairs Quiz - 8 October 2026.
Public Health and Governance - JOSH Teams Launched for TB Mukt Bharat
Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda launched JOSH (Joint Squad for Health) Teams under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on 8 October 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This is the current milestone: a new community-action initiative was formally launched, with the first phase covering 55 districts across 11 States and Union Territories. The release says the initiative is intended to expand nationwide.
The teams are designed to support youth-led community action against tuberculosis. The launch also included new information, education and communication (IEC) materials and a mobile application for real-time reporting. These tools are intended to help track local activity and make community participation more visible within the wider TB elimination effort.
The PIB release also reported that 67,933 panchayats across 697 districts were recognised as TB Mukt in 2026. This is a reported programme achievement, not a claim that tuberculosis has been eliminated from every district or that all panchayats have the same status. For exam preparation, distinguish the JOSH launch from the broader TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and remember that its first phase is district-based and designed for later expansion.

Science and Education - India Wins Four Gold and One Silver at IOAA 2026
India won four Gold medals and one Silver medal at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) 2026, held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The competition concluded on 5 October 2026, and the result was reported by the Department of Atomic Energy through PIB on the same date. All five Indian students who participated won a medal.
India was placed jointly in third position with Vietnam's guest team. Iran and South Korea led the tally with five Gold medals each. The Olympiad had 307 students from 64 countries, making it the largest IOAA to date by participating countries and students according to the PIB release.
The IOAA tests more than one type of astronomical knowledge. Its competition has three main components: Theory accounts for 50 percent, while Observation accounts for 25 percent and Data Analysis accounts for 25 percent. A mixed-nation team competition is also held. These proportions are useful for objective questions because they distinguish the individual assessment components from the separate team event.
The result also formed part of a wider 2026 Olympiad achievement. With the conclusion of IOAA, the senior-level International Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Astronomy for the year had concluded. The PIB release noted that, for the first time since India's participation began in 1989, every Indian student across those senior-level Olympiads won either Gold or Silver during the year.
For examination purposes, IOAA should be understood as an international academic competition in astronomy and astrophysics, not as a space-agency mission or a satellite launch. Its three-part assessment is useful because it combines theoretical knowledge with observation and data interpretation. The 2026 result therefore has both an achievement angle - India's five students all medalled - and a science-education angle through the competition's structure and record participation.

Quick Revision Table
| Area | Current development | Key fact or status |
|---|---|---|
| Public Health and Governance | JOSH Teams launched under TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan | First phase covers 55 districts across 11 States/UTs; a mobile app and new IEC materials were also launched |
| Science and Education | India wins four Gold and one Silver at IOAA 2026 | All five Indian participants won medals; Theory, Observation and Data Analysis carry 50%, 25% and 25% |
Exam Focus
The JOSH launch should be read as a community-level tuberculosis implementation measure. The current-affairs fact is the launch, its first-phase geography and its reporting tools; it does not mean that the nationwide expansion has already been completed. In static preparation, remember that tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, commonly affecting the lungs, so public-health questions may connect the programme with prevention, diagnosis, treatment and community reporting.
The IOAA result is a science-education achievement rather than a defence or space-launch event. Astronomy studies celestial objects and phenomena, while astrophysics applies physical principles to explain them. The release's Theory, Observation and Data Analysis components reflect that combination of conceptual knowledge, observation and interpretation. These distinctions help keep the current result connected to durable science concepts without adding unsupported claims about the competition.

Source and Chronology Note
The JOSH Teams launch was reported as an 8 October 2026 milestone by PIB. The IOAA result was reported on 5 October after the competition concluded on 5 October. Neither development was previously covered in the recent CareerUdaya daily editions from 1 to 7 October.
Recent editions were checked for duplication. They already cover the Bankers' Books Evidence Act, Rabi MSP, ASI, Green Energy Corridor, National Coastal Mission 2.0, CAFE norms, GOBARdhan, UPSC's centenary, SEBI's verification system, MLFF, the WASH social bond, Jammu and Kashmir mineral auctions, RoDTEP, Buxa, free-space QKD, Classical Language Centres of Excellence, Great Indian Bustard release, the Sabarmati bridge, the Dibrugarh-Bangladesh cargo voyage, Kuno cheetahs, India-Switzerland outcomes, NHTS, Project VeerAI, SME Growth Fund, ITLA, VB-G RAM G, AHAP, BrahMos, the revised defence SOP, NCAHP regulations, SC-beneficiary reporting and environmental-economic accounts. Routine roundtables, local facility inaugurations without an exceptional milestone, political statements without an implemented outcome, backgrounders, scheduled events without a new outcome and the previously rejected catalyst report were not selected.
