Defence - DAC Clears Capital Acquisition Proposals
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by the Raksha Mantri on 26 October 2026, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹2,12,000 crore for the Defence Forces.
The proposals cover systems for the Army, Navy and Air Force, including Very Short-Range Air Defence Systems, counter-unmanned aerial systems, surveillance and strike systems, naval platforms, air-defence systems and mobile X-band Doppler weather radars. The release states that about 82% of the procurements will be made from Indian industry.
AoN is an in-principle administrative approval within the acquisition process. It is not the same as signing a contract, delivering equipment or inducting a system into service.

Telecom Regulation - TRAI Recommendations for ALTD Services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released recommendations on 26 October 2026 for an Authorisation Framework for Application-based Linear Television Distribution (ALTD) Services, including Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television services.
The recommendations propose that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting maintain a Master ALTD app repository. Device manufacturers and operating-system providers would be expected to make only authorised ALTD applications available through their devices and app stores, with annual compliance reporting to the Ministry. The framework also addresses authorised channels, consumer grievance redressal and anonymised viewership data.
These are TRAI recommendations, not a final rule or an already implemented licensing framework. TRAI issued them after a consultation paper, stakeholder comments and an open-house discussion.

Official Statistics - Proposed ASUSE 2027-28 Changes
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation reported on 26 October 2026 that the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) 2027-28 is proposed to shift from a calendar-year survey period to the financial year, April-March, with the proposed survey running from April 2027 to March 2028.
The proposed changes also introduce policy-focused questions, including the first-time capture of gender-specific constraints faced by female entrepreneurs, and a question to better understand establishments' investment trajectory. The sample design provides for district-level estimates by participating States.
This is a proposed survey design and schedule change. It is not a claim that the 2027-28 survey has already been conducted or that the proposed questions are already producing official estimates.

Defence and International Relations - Garuda Shakti Commences
The 11th India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise, Garuda Shakti, commenced at Banyuwangi, Indonesia, on 27 October 2026. It is scheduled from 27 October to 6 November.
The exercise focuses on special-operations tactics, techniques and procedures in jungle environments. Its training includes obstacle crossing, combat marksmanship, mountaineering, air-assault training and combat-hardening sessions, along with exchange of expertise on weapons, equipment and operational practices.
The exercise is intended to strengthen mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability. A later validation exercise is planned to assess endurance, coordination and combat readiness; that planned activity should not be described as completed in this edition.

Environment and Wildlife Governance - Central Team Investigates Cheetah Death
The Union Government deputed a high-level Central team on 28 October 2026 after a 19-month-old male cheetah, KNG22, died from firearm pellet injuries. The animal was found injured on 25 October in territorial forests of Morena outside Kuno National Park and died on 27 October despite medical intervention.
The team comprises the Inspector General of Forests from the National Tiger Conservation Authority, an Additional Director from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and a Regional Deputy Director from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. It will investigate the circumstances, examine security and protection protocols, coordinate with Madhya Pradesh authorities and submit findings and recommendations.
The current milestone is the Central investigation response. The source does not establish the investigation's conclusions or a completed change in Project Cheetah protection policy.
