Overview

The 25 October 2026 Daily Current Affairs edition covers four distinct developments reported by official sources on 24 October: a milestone in India's indigenous submarine Air Independent Propulsion programme, a new air-pollution analysis facility for Delhi-NCR, completion of the 11-crore Farmer ID target, and the implementation framework for the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster at Gaya. Each note distinguishes the actual milestone from future plans, targets and proposed investment.

Defence and Science - Indigenous Submarine AIP Reaches STW-2

The indigenous Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) Energy Module developed by the Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL) of DRDO reached a key programme milestone on 24 October 2026 with the inauguration of its Setting to Work Phase-2 (STW-2) activity at Larsen & Toubro's AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.

AIP systems allow diesel-electric submarines to remain underwater longer by reducing their dependence on atmospheric oxygen. The release says the next phase will energise the Energy Module for power production and subject it to rigorous testing under Indian Navy protocols. After that, it is planned to be handed over to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited for integration on a Kalvari-class submarine in early 2027. Integration and induction had therefore not yet been completed at the time of the release.

Environment and Technology - AATAL for Delhi-NCR Air Pollution

The Ministry of Earth Sciences inaugurated the Integrated Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosol Toxicity Analysis Laboratory (AATAL) at the Delhi branch of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology on 24 October 2026. The facility was described as a first-of-its-kind integrated air-pollution analysis facility for Delhi-NCR.

AATAL is designed to go beyond reporting an Air Quality Index number. It combines atmospheric measurement, chemical characterisation, pollution-source identification and health-impact analysis. Integrated with AIRWISE, it is intended to support real-time source apportionment, forecasting and evidence-based decisions by agencies such as the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). It is a scientific decision-support facility, not a replacement for the AQI or a new pollution-control law.

Agriculture and Digital Governance - 11 Crore Farmer IDs

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare reported on 24 October 2026 that the Government had created 11 crore Farmer IDs, achieving the target five months ahead of the 31 March 2027 deadline. The source says the creation of the target was completed by the night of 23 October 2026 under the Digital Agriculture Mission.

Farmer ID is intended to provide a verified digital identity linked to agricultural service delivery. It can support more transparent access to government schemes, bank credit, crop insurance, disaster relief and procurement-related services, while reducing repeated paperwork and duplicate verification. The achievement is a digital-governance implementation milestone; it does not mean that every farmer has automatically received every scheme benefit.

Infrastructure and Industry - IMC Gaya Implementation SPV

The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) formally launched Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited (BIMCGL) at Bodh Gaya on 24 October 2026. BIMCGL is the special-purpose vehicle responsible for implementing the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Gaya under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor, as part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.

The project is spread across 1,670 acres in Gaya district. The launch included the signing of 12 MoUs covering approximately 300 acres and proposed investments of around ₹4,200 crore. These are proposed investments, not completed expenditure. BIMCGL is a joint venture of the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, with equal equity participation. Physical construction had already commenced, while the 24 October milestone was the formal launch of the implementing SPV and investor-facilitation framework.

Exam Focus

For defence science, distinguish AIP's underwater-endurance function from completed submarine integration. For environment, revise source apportionment and the role of scientific evidence in air-quality management. For governance, connect Farmer ID with verified digital delivery and cooperative federalism. For infrastructure, distinguish an SPV and industrial-corridor implementation framework from actual realised investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has the indigenous AIP system already been integrated into a submarine?

No. STW-2 was inaugurated and further energising, testing and validation were planned before handover to Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited for planned Kalvari-class integration.

What is AATAL designed to do?

AATAL is designed to analyse pollutant composition, identify sources, assess potential health implications and support forecasting and evidence-based air-quality decisions.

What does the Farmer ID milestone mean?

The Digital Agriculture Mission reached 11 crore Farmer IDs ahead of its 31 March 2027 target. The IDs are intended to support verified and less repetitive delivery of agricultural services.

What is BIMCGL's role?
