Culture and Awards - 72nd National Film Awards Presented
The President of India presented the 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, and conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 on Anant Nag. The presentation marks the completion of the awards ceremony that had been scheduled for 22 September. The awards recognise achievements in Indian cinema for the year 2024.
The National Film Awards were instituted in 1954. The 72nd edition includes Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Writing on Cinema. Environment and Assam - Project Rhino
On World Rhino Day, the Prime Minister highlighted that Assam holds nearly 80% of the world’s rhino population and praised conservation work in Kaziranga. He also stated that Project Rhino has been initiated to provide financial and technical support to range states.
The project is intended to support protection, habitat management, genetic improvement and understanding of population dynamics. The announcement is important for Assam-focused examinations because it links a globally significant species with Kaziranga, range-state conservation and wildlife-management measures. It also shows why biodiversity protection combines habitat work, anti-poaching efforts, science and community participation.

Water Governance - India International Water Week 2026
The Vice-President inaugurated the 9th India International Water Week 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti from 22 to 26 September 2026, the event is being held on the theme “Climate Resilient Water Management.” The Netherlands and Germany are partner countries, while 14 States are partner States.
The week brings together governments, international organisations, research institutions, industry, civil society, start-ups and young professionals. Its purpose is to connect policy dialogue with technology demonstration, knowledge exchange and practical cooperation for water security. The associated WASH discussions cover drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in the context of climate change. Candidates should distinguish the event’s theme from the separate Urban River Management and reservoir-management initiatives launched at the inauguration.

Internal Security - National ANTF Conference
The Union Home Minister inaugurated the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States and Union Territories in New Delhi. The two-day conference brought together ANTF heads from 36 States and Union Territories. Television campaigns against narcotics were launched, new NCB zonal-complex foundation stones were laid at Lucknow and Dehradun, and better-performing ANTFs were recognised.
The conference illustrates a coordinated approach to narcotics control involving the Union government, States and Union Territories. In an examination answer, ANTF should be connected with state and UT-level coordination against narcotic drugs, while the NCB remains the central agency featured in the release.

Health - 11th Ayurveda Day
The 11th Ayurveda Day is being observed across India and worldwide on 23 September under the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow.” The national programme is being held in Nagpur. The observance focuses on evidence, research, innovation and community wellbeing rather than treating traditional medicine as separate from scientific assessment.
The programme includes the launch of the first Report on the Ayush Services Sector, safety dossiers on Gokshura and Chandrasura, Standard Treatment Guidelines on skin disorders, and the CCRAS-AGNI Assessment Scale web portal. Scientific sessions address the road to 2047 and the role of integrated therapies in reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases. Remember Nagpur, the theme and the emphasis on evidence and research.

Economy and Energy - OPEC-India Energy Dialogue
The 7th High-Level Meeting of the OPEC-India Energy Dialogue was held in New Delhi on 22 September 2026. It was co-chaired by India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the OPEC Secretary General. Discussions covered oil-market stability, energy security, investment in the oil industry and short-, medium- and long-term energy outlooks.
The meeting is an example of producer-consumer dialogue. Both sides stressed deeper cooperation for a balanced, stable and predictable energy market. They also agreed to hold the 8th High-Level Meeting at a mutually convenient date in Vienna, Austria. The next meeting’s proposed venue should not be confused with the venue of the seventh meeting.

Infrastructure - NHAI and SSNNL MoU
The National Highways Authority of India and Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) signed an MoU in Gujarat to establish a simplified and time-bound approval framework for National Highway, canal and pipeline crossings. The framework provides for early sharing of project information, standardised engineering practices and clearly defined responsibilities for construction and maintenance.
An important feature is the mutual waiver of various fees, charges and levies for crossings covered by the agreement. The purpose is to reduce procedural bottlenecks and project costs while improving coordination. This is an inter-agency infrastructure-governance arrangement, not a new highway construction project.

Science and Environment - Geopolymer Concrete Technology
The CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai, transferred its indigenously developed eco-friendly geopolymer concrete block technology to Archana Blocks, Rajapalayam, as part of CSIR’s 85th Foundation Day celebrations. The technology is designed as a sustainable alternative to conventional cement-based construction products.
Geopolymer technology is relevant to sustainable infrastructure because it can reduce the carbon footprint associated with conventional cement products. The transfer also demonstrates the pathway from publicly funded laboratory research to industrial application. The key distinction is between a technology transfer to an industry partner and a laboratory-only research announcement.

Science and Technology - Construction Robotics at IIT Madras
IIT Madras inaugurated a construction robotics laboratory established with CSR support from Bechtel India. The ₹3.30-crore facility will support research, prototypes, patents, technology demonstrations and training in robotics and automation for construction and infrastructure.
The partnership also includes industry expertise for curriculum enhancement, researcher mentoring and internship opportunities. This makes the laboratory an example of academia-industry collaboration in deep-tech research. Its focus is construction and infrastructure automation, not general-purpose robotics alone.

Sports - India’s Women Win Asian Games Cricket Gold
India’s Women’s Cricket Team won the Gold medal at the Asian Games, and the Prime Minister described the victory as India’s first gold of that edition of the Games. The official release credited the result to confidence, skill and teamwork.
For exam preparation, the important facts are the sport, the medal and the event context. Do not confuse this result with the Indian women’s team winning the Asia Cup, which was a separate tournament and earlier development. This is a completed sporting achievement, so it can be used in current-affairs revision without relying on a future schedule.
