In the 80th Independence Day address, the Prime Minister announced that one crore youth would be trained in Artificial Intelligence skills over the next one year. The same official update also announced a network for free online coaching for youth preparing for various examinations.

The announcement linked Digital Public Infrastructure, teachers and available talent to reduce the financial burden of coaching on poor and middle-class families. A nationwide sports talent hunt for children aged 5 to 15 years was also announced. Digital Governance - CBDC-Based DBT under PMGKAY

The Government launched Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Direct Benefit Transfer under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Under the new system, the food subsidy is transferred to the beneficiary's Digital Rupee wallet instead of a conventional bank account.

The subsidy is purpose-bound for purchasing foodgrains from empanelled merchants through a secure and traceable digital payment mechanism. Smartphone users can pay through QR codes, while feature-phone users can use OTP-based mechanisms. The exam point is the use of CBDC for targeted welfare delivery, transparency and reduced cash handling within a food-security programme.

Polity & Economy - MMDR Amendment Bill, 2026

The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 was passed by both Houses of Parliament on 13 August 2026. It amends the MMDR Act, 1957 with the aim of bringing long-term stability to the major minerals sector.

The Ministry stated that the Bill does not take away State rights over land and minerals or State-collected mineral taxes. Around 90% of mining taxes and statutory payments accrue to States, and this arrangement is to continue. The Bill is important for questions on federalism, mineral regulation, investment certainty, import dependence and the difference between major and minor minerals.

Rural Development - Seven Years of Jal Jeevan Mission

The Ministry of Jal Shakti stated that Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), launched on 15 August 2019, completed seven years of rural drinking-water transformation. At launch, 3.23 crore rural households, or 16.72%, had tap-water connections. The current coverage is more than 15.91 crore rural households, accounting for 82.24% of rural households.

The update also reported more than 12.68 crore additional rural households connected since launch and 2.04 lakh villages certified as Har Ghar Jal. Candidates should remember JJM as a rural Functional Household Tap Connection programme, while JJM 2.0 focuses on service delivery, source sustainability, community ownership and long-term functionality.

Defence - Gallantry Awards and Mention-in-Despatches

The President approved 78 Gallantry awards, including 13 posthumous awards, for personnel of the Defence Forces and Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of Independence Day 2026. The awards include 9 Kirti Chakras, one Bar to Shaurya Chakra, 19 Shaurya Chakras, 5 Bars to Sena Medals, 36 Sena Medals, 3 Nao Sena Medals and 5 Vayu Sena Medals.

The approval also included 89 Mention-in-Despatches. Defence & Industry - Loiter Munition Systems for Indian Army

The Ministry of Defence signed contracts with TATA Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited for the procurement of Loiter Munition Systems, munitions and accessories for the Indian Army at an approximate cost of ₹1,577 crore.

The Loiter Munition System is intended to enhance the capability of Artillery Regiments and strengthen operational effectiveness. The procurement is under the Buy (Indian) category through the Fast Track Procedure. The exam hook is the link between modern artillery capability, unmanned precision systems, indigenous defence manufacturing and the Aatmanirbhar Bharat framework.

Manufacturing & Technology - Semicon 2.0 and Electronics Manufacturing

The PIB factsheet on manufacturing stated that Semicon India Programme 1.0 was approved in December 2021 with an outlay of ₹76,000 crore. Building on it, Semicon 2.0 was approved in July 2026 with a total budget outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore.

As of July 2026, twelve manufacturing units had been approved under Semicon 1.0 with investments exceeding ₹1.64 lakh crore, including one silicon fab, one silicon carbide fab, an integrated Gallium Nitride Micro LED display fab and nine packaging units. The factsheet also stated that electronics goods production rose to about ₹13.11 lakh crore in FY 2025-26 and mobile phone exports rose to about ₹2.59 lakh crore. This is important for manufacturing, value chains and semiconductor self-reliance.

Health & Social Welfare - HPV Vaccination Progress

The PIB backgrounder on women's development stated that a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign was launched on 28 February 2026 for approximately 1.2 crore eligible beneficiary girls aged 14 years across all 36 States and Union Territories.

As of 15 July 2026, 52,10,302 girls had received the HPV vaccine across the country. The same backgrounder linked the campaign with broader women's health, nutrition and life-cycle interventions.
