Assam & Northeast - IMD's Advance Flood Warnings for Upper Assam

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued advance district-level rainfall forecasts and colour-coded impact-based warnings for all districts of Upper Assam before and during heavy to very heavy rainfall activity from 18 to 20 July 2026. The forecasts captured the events with a lead time of seven days, accompanied by daily colour-coded warnings valid for the subsequent seven days.

The official update specifically discussed districts including Jorhat, Golaghat, Sivasagar and Charaideo. It also described the synoptic systems that supported the rainfall episode, including a monsoon trough, a low-pressure area and upper-air cyclonic circulations over Northeast Assam and adjoining regions. Environment - World Elephant Day and India's Elephant Conservation Network

On World Elephant Day, official background material stated that India is home to nearly 60% of the world's wild Asian elephant population. The Synchronous All India Population Estimation of Elephants (SAIEE) 2021-25 estimated India's wild elephant population at 22,446. These elephants are protected across 33 Elephant Reserves and 150 identified corridors.

Elephants are described as foundational or ecosystem-engineering species because their movement creates pathways and water holes, supports nutrient cycling and disperses seeds. India's conservation approach combines legal protection, habitat conservation, scientific monitoring, technology and community participation. Candidates should distinguish an Elephant Reserve from an identified corridor: the former is a designated conservation landscape, while a corridor facilitates movement between habitats.

Science & Technology - AI and Machine Learning for Weather Forecasting

The Government is using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data to improve the accuracy and timeliness of weather forecasts and early-warning services. The National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) is integrating AI or ML forecast guidance with data assimilation, coupled Earth System modelling, ensemble prediction systems, High Performance Computing and conventional Numerical Weather Prediction models.

The initiatives include a deep-learning model called meteoGAN for rainfall downscaling in the Delhi-NCR region at 300-metre spatial resolution, an AI-based medium-range model generating daily forecasts up to seven days, and AI-derived products integrated into a GIS-based Multi-Hazard Early Warning Decision Support System. AI is being used to complement, not replace, conventional numerical forecasting.

Economy & Environment - PM E-DRIVE and India's Electric-Mobility Ecosystem

The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme has an outlay of ₹10,900 crore and supports incentives for approximately 28.30 lakh electric vehicles, including electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, trucks, buses and ambulances. The scheme also provides grants for upgrading testing agencies and supports electric-vehicle public charging infrastructure.

The Government has allocated ₹4,391 crore for the deployment of 14,028 electric buses, of which 14,000 have been allocated, and ₹2,000 crore for electric-vehicle public charging stations on a pan-India basis. Candidates should distinguish PM E-DRIVE from the earlier FAME India Phase-II scheme, whose implementation period was 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2024.

Economy & Consumer Protection - India's First Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), a constituent board of the Quality Council of India, launched India's first-of-its-kind Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories under the Integrated Assessment Programme.

The scheme creates a framework for reliable, quality-assured and internationally benchmarked food testing closer to communities. It is intended to strengthen food-safety surveillance, enable faster regulatory intervention, improve access to testing and increase consumer confidence. The initiative also supports coordinated assessments, regulatory harmonisation, mutual recognition and a more integrated quality infrastructure. The exam distinction is between accreditation of testing competence and a food-safety enforcement action against a particular business.

Government Schemes & Tribal Development - PM-JUGA and DAJGUA

The Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM-JUGA), also known as Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), comprises 25 interventions implemented by 17 line Ministries. Launched on 2 October 2024, the Abhiyan aims to saturate infrastructure gaps in 63,843 villages, improve access to health, education and Anganwadi facilities, and provide livelihood opportunities for more than 5 crore tribal people in 549 districts and 2,911 blocks across 30 States and Union Territories over five years.

The mission works through multiple sectors rather than a single departmental scheme. Its progress table includes housing, roads, drinking water, electricity, solar power, health, nutrition and education interventions. Candidates should remember that PM-JUGA or DAJGUA is the name of the umbrella tribal-development campaign and not the name of one individual infrastructure component.

Social Justice & Digital Governance - DBT Tribal Portal and SNA SPARSH

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is using the DBT Tribal Portal to monitor beneficiaries and generate management information reports for pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes. States and Union Territories can upload queries, utilisation certificates and statements of expenditure through the portal, reducing processing time and grievances.

For the Centrally Sponsored scholarship schemes, the Ministry has adopted the SNA SPARSH Model. This is a Just-in-Time Disbursement Framework: after the State's bill is approved, the Central and State shares are transferred directly from the RBI account to the student beneficiary account through Direct Benefit Transfer. The model is designed to reduce parking of funds at the State level and minimise delays. It should not be confused with a conventional scholarship portal that only collects applications.

Skill Development & Industry - New-Age Roles under PMKVY 4.0

Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, training has been aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework and new-age job roles such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, Internet of Things, semiconductors, drone technology, solar technology and 3D printing. More than 600 new-age and futuristic courses have been introduced.

As of 30 June 2026, around 5.44 lakh candidates had been trained or oriented in new-age and futuristic job roles under PMKVY 4.0. The scheme is demand-driven and includes special projects for women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, persons with disabilities and aspirational or tribal districts. Candidates should distinguish PMKVY 4.0 from the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme and Jan Shikshan Sansthan, which are separate skill-development initiatives.

Water Resources & Infrastructure - Status of River Interlinking Projects

The Government formulated a National Perspective Plan (NPP) for inter-basin water transfer and identified 30 Interlinking of Rivers (ILR) projects: 16 under the Peninsular component and 14 under the Himalayan component. The National Water Development Agency (NWDA) has been entrusted with the work of interlinking rivers.

The Ken-Betwa Link Project is the only priority link project under the NPP that has entered the implementation stage. It has an estimated cost of ₹44,605 crore and is envisaged to provide irrigation to about 11.88 lakh hectares, drinking water to about 62 lakh people, 103 MW of hydropower and 27 MW of solar power. Environmental Impact Assessment and rehabilitation and resettlement provisions form part of the project framework.

Assam & Northeast - International Tourism Mart and Northeast Tourism Promotion

The Ministry of Tourism has organised the International Tourism Mart (ITM) in the Northeast since 2013. It is an annual platform for showcasing the tourism potential of the eight Northeastern States: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. The latest ITM mentioned in the official update was held at Gangtok, Sikkim, from 13 to 16 November 2025.

The Ministry promotes Northeast destinations through the Incredible India Digital Platform, fairs and festivals, exhibitions, social media and schemes such as Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD, assistance for tourism infrastructure, Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment and Challenge Based Destination Development. The important exam point is that tourism promotion in the Northeast combines destination marketing with infrastructure and State-support programmes.
